Ski & Adventure Elopements Across Europe: Real Weddings in the Alps & Dolomites
Love in the Snow – Wedding Stories Written in the Mountains
There’s something truly extraordinary about exchanging vows in a snow-covered wilderness – where the world feels still, the crisp alpine air heightens the senses, and every moment feels more alive.
Whether you’re carving fresh tracks together after saying ‘I do’, arriving by helicopter to a secluded glacier, or sharing a private first look outside a cosy chalet before hitting the slopes, a snowy adventure elopement or intimate wedding is an experience like no other.
For some, it starts even earlier – with a winter proposal in the mountains, setting the tone for an unforgettable journey together. And for those who want to embrace adventure on their wedding day, a ski or snow elopement is the perfect way to celebrate – whether that means a remote exchange of vows on a glacier, a mountaintop ceremony, or an intimate wedding in an alpine lodge with just a few close guests.
In this blog, I’ll take you through some of the most unforgettable ski and adventure weddings I’ve captured – real stories of couples who chose to celebrate their love with the mountains as their witness.
Eloping on a Glacier – A Helicopter Elopement on Petersgrat
High above the world, surrounded by nothing but snow and sky, Petersgrat Glacier provided the ultimate setting for an intimate, adventure-filled elopement. With no way to reach the location other than by helicopter, the experience felt as remote and untouched as it gets – a moment of complete stillness before the couple exchanged vows, just the two of them and the vast Alpine landscape of the Jungfrau Region as their witness. (Oh and myself and Suzanne the photographer, of course!)
Filming in such an extreme location required embracing the elements – navigating deep snow, shifting light, and the sheer scale of the glacier. As the helicopter landed, the excitement was tangible; the couple stepped out onto the pristine snow, surrounded by nothing but the grandeur of the Alps. This wasn’t just a ceremony; it was an experience—one where nature, adventure, and emotion intertwined seamlessly.

A cinematic moment – capturing the couple as they step onto the glacier, surrounded by a vast white landscape stretching endlessly behind them.
But this elopement was more than just a winter moment. Their wedding took place in May, meaning they experienced two seasons in one day – from the crisp, white snow of the glacier to the lush spring meadows overlooking the iconic Lauterbrunnen Valley. It was a breathtaking contrast: the raw, untamed beauty of winter giving way to the warmth and vibrancy of spring.

Two seasons in one day – from the glacier to a breathtaking viewpoint above Lauterbrunnen, where spring meadows replaced snowfields.
This film was the result of five days of patience, perseverance, and trust in nature. We had waited for the perfect weather window, ensuring that when the moment arrived, it would be nothing short of spectacular. Over two days and an evening, we captured the magic of their adventure – from their elopement on the glacier to an evening hike in search of clear skies. While the stars never fully emerged, the outcome was still mystical and atmospheric, proving that sometimes, the most unexpected conditions create the most breathtaking moments.

A Ski & Snowboard Wedding in Zell am See
For Gerry-Rae & Nick, their intimate wedding wasn’t just about saying ‘I do’ – it was about embracing the mountains, the snow, and the adventure they love. Their intimate wedding in Zell am See, Austria, was the perfect reflection of who they are – a beautiful balance of exhilaration, connection, and their passion for the slopes, with Nick on his snowboard and Gerry-Rae on her skis.
The day began with quiet anticipation as they got ready, exchanging heartfelt gifts with loved ones before stepping into their wedding attire.
After a beautiful ceremony in the local Rathaus, surrounded by breathtaking alpine views and their closest family and friends, they couldn’t wait to get back on the snow. Following their vows, they took to the pristine slopes of Zell am See, carving their way through beautifully pisted runs, while fellow skiers looked on – celebrating their newlywed status in the most fitting way possible.

Filming this wasn’t just about capturing a wedding – it was about preserving the essence of who they are, both on and off the slopes.
As the sun set, the celebrations continued with an intimate reception at 2,000 metres at the Ariet Lounge, where they cut their cake – and some shapes on the dance floor.
A Ski Elopement in Zillertal in Austria
For Susana and Tiago, eloping in Zillertal, Austria, was about embracing the mountains on skis. A ski elopement where the focus wasn’t just on the vows but on the experience of being in the Alps, moving through the landscape together. With no distractions, no schedules, and nothing but the mountains around them, they carved their way through the snow, side by side.
Their day was all about adventure and simplicity.
From skiing across pristine slopes to winding through snow-covered trails, every moment felt natural and unforced. Their vows, spoken in the mountain air, were as intimate as the setting – just the two of them, with nothing but the stillness of the Alps as their witness.
Capturing this moment wasn’t just about capturing the ceremony; it was about telling the full story—the movement, the energy of the mountains, and the feeling of freedom that comes with a ski elopement in the Alps.

First Look & Pre-Wedding Ski in Fiss, Austria – Irene & Koen
For Irene & Koen, their wedding was more than a single day – it was a complete Alpine experience, beginning with a first look outside a charming chalet and a pre-wedding ski day in Fiss, Austria.
Before the ceremony, the couple hit the slopes, taking time to enjoy the adventure together before stepping into their intimate wedding celebration. The beauty of this setting wasn’t just in the location but in the way the day unfolded so naturally – unrushed, deeply personal, and centred on what truly mattered to them.
Capturing Irene & Koen’s pre-wedding ski shoot was a chance to tell their story beyond the ceremony, weaving in the moments of laughter, adventure, and anticipation leading up to the vows. These candid, movement-filled shots brought a beautiful balance to their final film.

Snowboarders in the Dolomites – Avgi & Darren’s Ski Adventure Wedding
Some couples find their greatest connection on the slopes, and for Avgi & Darren, their wedding in the Dolomites was all about embracing their shared love of snowboarding. This was more than just a wedding—it was a full-scale adventure, blending breathtaking landscapes with the energy and thrill of the sport they love.
From snowboarding into their ceremony location to an epic sunset ride down the mountains, their day was built around movement, fun, and the freedom of the mountains. The challenge of filming a wedding like this? Keeping up! Capturing every turn, every shared smile, and every exhilarating descent meant skiing and filming in tandem, ensuring that the final film didn’t just show their day but truly reflected how it felt to be there.

A Snowy Proposal on Männlichen: The Perfect Alpine Moment
Not every couple elopes straight away—sometimes, the adventure begins with a perfectly planned proposal. This stunning proposal on Männlichen, high above the Jungfrau region, was one of those unforgettable moments.
With blue skies, bright sunshine, and panoramic views stretching across the Alps, the scene was nothing short of spectacular. The snow underfoot, the crisp mountain air, and the quiet intimacy of the moment made it the perfect setting for a private, heartfelt proposal.
Capturing proposals is about preserving the raw emotion of the moment—before the excitement settles in, before the reality of the next chapter fully sinks in. The beauty of filming in such a setting is that there’s no need for an elaborate setup. The mountains, the light, and the moment itself tell the story.
