Aldby Park in Yorkshire – a marvellous marquee wedding
In the seventh of our series of ‘real weddings’, I wanted to share with you the story of Jody and Roxy. A beautiful couple who came armed with amazing ideas for their Yorkshire summer wedding.
Their chosen venue – Aldby Park, a country estate in the delightful village of Buttercrambe near the village of Stamford Bridge in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
Aldby Park has wonderful views, mazes and picturesque landscaped grounds so the ideal setting for marquees and outdoor weddings. And perfectly suited to a couple who share a love of the countryside.
As soon as I first ‘met’ Jody and Roxy on Skype, I could see how loving they are towards each other and how they encourage each other to bring out the best in each other.
On the day of their wedding, I arrived at their preparation venue – the beautiful Street Farm Cottages in Full Sutton – at 9am. Both looked stunning in their gorgeous gowns.
The brides then travelled down a country lane to the venue in separate camper vans – truly arriving in style at Aldby Park!
During their humanist ceremony, Jody and Roxy promised to ‘love, honour, care and laugh with each other always’ and exchanged delightful ‘love boxes’ to share and enjoy on their 10th Wedding Anniversary – enclosed with personal notes to each other, their vows and their favourite tipples.
Later, the evening’s entertainment began with a brilliant choreographed first dance, followed by a ‘Magic Door’ theme..
Guests were given a glittery magic bean in an organza bag which they had to trade for a hat /wig/prop, face paint and biodegradable glitter via a ‘magic door’ (a flower arch lit with candles and a door with fairy lights and drapes).
Now, it doesn’t make a difference to me if couples are committing to a same sex marriage or not – a marriage is a partnership – end of. But, equality is very important to me and I am passionate about telling stories and bringing out the best in people.
So it really was an honour to film Jody and Roxy’s wedding as it was my only same sex wedding of 2018.
It was also brilliant to work with their photographer, the brilliant Chris Milner, once more. His photos in this blog are just stunning.
Jody and Roxy wanted a film, not only as a gift for their parents, but as a gift to themselves so that “in years to come we can see the movie of our lives and watch the beginning of that magical journey over and over again”.
Watch the story of Jody and Roxy…
