A World War Two Love Story and a 21st Century Wedding
Ever since she was a little girl, American Brittany dreamed that she would get married in a little white church nestled in an Alpine valley in Switzerland.
Located in Davos, a picturesque town in the Swiss Alps, the Reformed Church of Davos Frauenkirch (Reformierte Kirche Davos Frauenkirch), is certainly a beauty – a tiny 14th century venue in a stunning setting of rolling pastures.
But, more significantly, it is also the church where Brittany’s grandparents, Tootsie and Pops, married in July 1946, shortly after World War II.
American solider Pops had been stationed in Germany during the end of WWII and during a brief trip to Switzerland to enjoy a spot of skiing, he ended up in a local hospital with a broken leg. It was here that he met Tootsie, who would regularly visit the hospital with a handful of mountain flowers to cheer up convalescing soldiers.
Their conversations and love grew and grew – and, later, they tied the knot in Frauenkirch on 21 July 1946 before sailing back to the United States for a wonderful future together.
Fast forward to August 2018 and it was the turn of granddaughter Brittany to marry the love of her life, Ryan, in that same little white church.
Brittany and Ryan met in California on a blind date set up by mutual friends and later got engaged with a little help from the other love in their lives – Tallulah, a sweet Wheaten Terrier dog.
The travel-loving couple, who now live in Texas, enjoyed a heartfelt and wonderfully simple wedding with just their very closest friends and immediate family.
This was followed by a marvellous celebratory dinner at Hotel Walserhuus Sertig, housed under the mountain peaks of Hochducan and Mittagshorn, where Brittany wore a transformed version of her Grandmother’s wedding dress.
The couple are planning a ‘HUGE’ reception in Dallas on their return to celebrate their amazing love story with friends and we’re so thrilled and honoured to have captured this love story for everyone back home to enjoy, too.
