to thine own self be true

For What It’s Worth

Have you ever felt under-valued?

Silly question.

Of course you have.

So WHO made you feel this way?…

Let’s go back to the beginning one moment.

There’s a saying,

“Nothing worth having comes easy”

or try

“What comes easy won’t last long, and what lasts long won’t come easy.”

It’s true isn’t it?

We accept this.

We understand that we have to work hard to achieve our goals and the harder we work to achieve those goals the better success feels.

Last year, I gave up a twenty-year career in broadcasting to concentrate on running my own flourishing filming business.

I never once thought it would be easy.

There are still days when I feel like I am going backwards rather than forwards.

When I think how easy it was each day to cover a news report at the BBC and know the next day I could start over on a completely new story, without the last one hanging over me – unfinished.

But how now everything I do each day leads into the next day… almost always unfinished.

I don’t think my decision was heroic.  But I do think it was brave.

It was also an informed decision.

One I made once I had truly accepted how hard it would be.

I know too that when I face the most difficult days the sense of achievement at the end is fantastic and makes it all worth while.

But it goes much further than this, doesn’t it.

When I look back at my life the things I cherish the most are the things I had to work hardest for.

From learning the basic skills of reading and writing, to achieving the grades to be accepted at London University, to working at some of the best broadcasters in the world, to finding and keeping my husband, to having two beautiful boys, successfully breast-feeding, juggling a full-time job with being a mum …. the list goes on. And on.

And I know that if I want something enough then I will work for it, save for it, make it by mine.

No excuses. No settling for second best.

But that also goes for accepting myself as who I am.

Knowing what I offer is me. The best of me.

Because I am true to myself. Because I am authentic. And because I know, when it comes to Story Of Your Day and my films, I am unique.

I LOVE my job.

I LOVE my purpose of bringing the best out in others.

And I also LOVE telling stories and making beautiful films.

So I will not sell myself short.

If you have self-worth then you cannot feel under-valued, no matter what anyone says.

So I’ll ask you again.

Have you ever felt under-valued?

Silly question.

Of course you have.

So WHO made you feel this way?

The answer:  Only you.

Now is the time for change.

Good luck xxx
